Butterflies are the most beautiful and graceful of all insects. Poets have called them winged flowers and flying gems. It is difficult to believe that a beautiful butterfly, which cannot bite or chew, was once a wormlike caterpillar that ate leaves and fruit. The brightly colored Eastern Tiger Swallowtail is one of the two largest butterflies in North America and may be easily observed around summer wildflowers in Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
