Spring on the Towpath Trail

After nearly a century of neglect, the towpath of the Ohio & Erie Canal has been restored in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Once used by barge pulling mules, the towpath is now the most popular trail in the park. Hikers, bikers, and joggers on the nearly level towpath may enjoy cool woodlands, misty beaver ponds, fields of wildflowers, colorful fall foliage, wildlife, canal era ruins, and panoramic views of the Cuyahoga River. The historic trailside Boston Store and Canal Visitor Center house extensive displays about the Ohio & Erie Canal era.
